Available May till end-August
4-days wildlife watching in Brasov area, Transylvania, Romania: bear watching, lynx watching, hiking in the Carpathians. Untouched nature, contiguous forests, amazing customs and hospitable people.
Through time, one of the most important ways to survive was camouflage. Lynx is still one of the best camouflaged mammals, which makes it very difficult to see in its natural habitat. This trip gives you the opportunity to watch both lynx and bears in their natural habitat, at safe distance to minimise the negative impact of our activities on these magnificent carnivores.
For environmental reasons the size of the group is 2-6 persons
Day 1
Transfer to our 2* guesthouse (optional 1* or 3*guesthouse) with en-suite facilities in Zarnesti or Magura village.
Day 2-3
If you feel up to it, we leave very early in the morning (about 3-4am) to watch lynx. Together with the lynx researcher we will walk slowly on one of the numerouse valleys teeming with wildlife looking for lynx. The early departure is to enable us to track the animals before they go to sleep, which in mid-summer is until 8.00 am.As extra activities, during day-time you can do some hiking and wildlife tracking, visit a shepherd camp, some of the local historical places (e.g. Bran Castle, Peles Castle or the medieval town of Brasov), go by horse drawn cart on one of the beautiful valleys close-by, hike, bike, paraglide, horse ride or just relax in the garden with a glass of home-made bilberry liquor or plum brandy, or the local “bear beer”.In the afternoon, after a delicious lunch we drive and hike to special places in order to see lynx and bears in their natural habitat. The chances are quite high (about 40% for lynx and 90% for bears), as the researchers know the perfect spots for wildlife watching. Late in the evening (about 10-11pm) we return to the guesthouse for a good night sleep.
Day 4
Transfer back to the airport.
