This circuit allows us to discover all that was the "Saxisch Siebenburgen", Saxon Transylvania, from very typical towns like Sibiu/Hermannstadt and Brasov/Kronstadt, imposing fortified churches, real citadels of Faith, like Biertan/Bierthalm, hidden villages off the beaten path as is Malincrav with its little church being inside a real jewel, not mentioned in tourist guidebooks, to UNESCO World Heritage medieval citadel of Sighisoara. This is a very complete tour with also a return back to Europe’s old ways. We chose for our comfort the best hotels in each town as well as best restaurants. Day 1
Arrive in Bucharest the capital of Romania, and of the most economically active. Accommodation in 5* hotel and dinner in the centre of the city in Downtown
Day 2
Leaving this morning in direction of Sibiu, lunch in the village of Sibiel, in Cristina’s farmhouse, and we are in are in the center of Sibiu/Hermanstadt, that is due to become European Capital of Culture in 2007 with Luxemburg. Walk in the old town includng the visit of the Brukhental museum. C/in hotel 3* and dinner in the restaurant of"the Old Sibiu"
Day 3
At a short distance from Sighisoara, we discover the imposing citadel of Faith that is the church of Biertan , visit and lunch in the restaurant at the feet of the church. We continue this afternoon on a real bumpy country road, for 10 kms to the well hidden village of Malincrav. This village is witnessing the rebirth of a german community , the local primary school having more and more children of "saxon"origin.We’ll visit, in company of the german reverend, or his wife, the little known church of the village with beautiful frescoes. We are, here, where very few group tours come.And are surrounded by an atmosphere of "old times", when the world was different. We go today in these typical and authentic villages as Prejmer and Viscri/Weisskirch to visit their beautiful and well restored fortified churches, that the villagers used as refuge in case of barbarian invasion. In the afternoon we are in one of the most attractive little towns of TransylvaniaDinner and accommodation in Poiana Brasov.
Day 4
Discovering the most visited castles of the country, Bran or…DraculaCastle, lunch and then through the southern carpathians, we reach Sinaia to visit the baroque castle of Peles, summer residence of the Hohenzollern royal family. In the late afternoon well drink plum brandy with villagers.It will be hard to avoid it! Tzuica, or plum brandy, very often home made, is usually served before meals. It is a mind blowing experience, it’s strong, but you’ll survive it, because, as they say in Romania, "it is natural, no chemicals, it is the best medicine.Some even bring back a bottle home!Dinner with folklorical program in Bucharest.Accomodation in 5*-Hotel
